ABSTRACT

This study "The Effect of Peace and Conflict Resolution" was carried out in Sudan with specific aims of establishing the factors that are leading to conflicts and their possible interventions, the importance of peace in conflict resolution and the challenges experienced in conflict resolution in Southern Sudan. To comprehend this, the study reviewed literature from various scholars on the specific aims as well as different laws from different countries that govern conflict resolution. This was done through a qualitative design in which the researcher concentrated on use of interview instmment administered on a sample of 30 respondents randomly selected. The study findings indicated that, the conflicts were a result traditional differences created through the divide and mle, insubordinations of some tribes, forced labour, need for revenge, unretumed dowry in cases of divorce and grabbing land which belongs to other communities however these can be solved by boosting the agricultural sector, educating the masses, capacity building as well as sensitizing communities on democracy and through use of security organs. But in a bid to secure peaceful resolutions challenges such as silence of the concemed authmities, poor agricultural yields due to umeliable rainfalls and lack of adequate training in respect to available job market. The study concluded that, Sudan will not attain its full potential of peace if the population remains illiterate and unemployed and if the religious and tribal differences are not solved. The study recommended prioritization of job oriented education, offering of market driven courses, ensuring market linkages, supporting private sector training and apprenticeships, as well as including orientation for prospective students.
